Climate Plan Rally, School Board Info Forum, Local Candidates, and More
A busy couple weeks ahead for Fairbanks!
Let’s get right into it.
Fairbanks Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) Rally
The proposed Fairbanks Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) looks a lot different than it did for most of last year. The Assembly will take it up on Thursday, June 8.
As I wrote back in March, the new plan does not represent the 15+ years of work our community has engaged in to approach the effects of and find local solutions to climate change.
The Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition, with The Alaska Center, is holding a rally in front of Assembly chambers and encouraging public testimony around amending the plan to add back in important goals that were recently removed.
The rally starts at 5:30pm on Thursday, June 8, and though the banner image states that it’ll be over by 6:15, expect testimony on this and other issues to continue far into the evening.
You can RSVP through Facebook or by filling out this form.
Planned Parenthood Wrap Up Party Today in Fairbanks
As Planned Parenthood Alaska noted, not a single anti-abortion, anti-sex ed, or anti-LGBTQ+ bill passed the Alaska legislature this year.
To celebrate, Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates is having a couple of legislative session Wrap-Up Parties: the one in Fairbanks is today, Wednesday, May 31, at 6pm at Native Movement.

Speaking of candidates…
Liz Reeves-Ramos Returns to Run Again
My friend Liz Reeves-Ramos has decided to run again for Borough Assembly.
Her announcement, made on Facebook last week:
I made the final decision yesterday while traveling in Utqiagvik for work. I am going to run for Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly again this year. It was my first time visiting the top of our beautiful State and I was thrilled to be able to finally see the Gateway to the Arctic. This whalebone arch has been a bucket list item for most of my life!
I still have a passion and desire to serve my community. I learned a lot last year during my first campaign and plan on bringing that knowledge and experience along with me for this years campaign. Helping people is my life's work. I plan on helping my friends, neighbors and community when elected to the Assembly.
While her website is still dormant, expect to see it back up soon.
Additional shoutout to Bobby Burgess (disclaimer: I’m on his campaign team) for his lovely new logo, too.
Candidates continue to join the race: expect more on them in the near future.
Speaking of Logos…
You may have noticed some new graphics creeping onto the newsletter: these are the result of a lot of hard work by Danielle Bessent, friend and friendly graphic designer.
I’d love to share her website with you, but it currently does not exist (Danielle!).
Nevertheless, I can’t recommend her highly enough. Let me know if you’d ever like to get in touch.
I’ve also launched Facebook and Instagram pages specifically for Kuba’s Corner, and am looking forward to having them grow.
The newsletter remains the method for getting news and updates out… social media will help spread the good word.
As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you’re doing well.
