Former members of the Fairbanks North Star Borough Climate Action Committee were recently dismissed from their positions via email from the new Presiding Officer, Aaron Lojewski, who had just been elected by the new conservative majority of the Assembly.
I am very angry about this. Maybe I wasn't angry enough during the election? Prior committee members served faithfully for a year and a half and needed to apply to serve: they were removed without notice as members the day after the new PO was elected. What kind of process did these new members go through, why are they more qualified than the previous members, and what does the incident tell us about the approach of the PO and new Assembly majority?
Thank you for sharing, Kuba. This is very disappointing -- they removed some wonderful, hardworking, smart people who were working for the good of our community. How do you suggest we respectfully press the new Climate Action Committee to continue to work towards a Climate Action Plan that serves our community? (email, calls, etc.) Thank you!
Thank you and good question, Patty. Fairbanks Climate Action Coalitions Policy & Politics Working Group is having a meeting tomorrow from 5:30-7:00pm to talk strategy. It'll be hybrid, both on Zoom (anyone message me for the link) and in-person at the FCAC / Native Movement Conference Room (60 Hall St). Join if you can! We will see if there is still a way to save it or of there are other avenues we should persue.

I'd like to see this covered in the Fairbanks Daily News Miner. It's an egregious power grab by people who don't like "the government."
Thanks Sue, I would too! I did send this article and some other thoughts to Gary and Jack at the DNM. Fingers crossed.

Ok thanks. I’m shocked !!
