Kids Voting North Alaska Multimedia Contest: Entries Due October 4
Kids Voting North Alaska is a nonpartisan voter education program committed to helping students in Interior Alaska become lifelong voters.
With grade school in the Fairbanks North Star Borough starting back up this week, it’s a wonderful opportunity to talk about the multimedia contest that Kids Voting North Alaska (KVNA) is holding through October 4, the day after Election Day in our Borough.
This contest invites youth to submit posters, videos, essays, or memes around the theme of “Vote Local: Your Right, Your Power”.
The contest is open to any K–12 students within the Borough, whether they attend public, private, or home school.
I recently joined the Board of KVNA and am excited to see the entries later this fall! Please share far and wide.
Full entry details are available here, and also noted below. Comments and questions can be send to education@kidsvotingnorthalaska.org.
Vote Local: Your Right, Your Power
Questions to ponder as you create your entry based on this theme:
How does voting in local elections affect your life?
What do local elected officials do for you?
What’s one thing you want changed in your community and how can
voting make a difference?
You aren't required to answer these questions but they may help you in addressing the theme in your creation.
✬ Our Local Governments: Fairbanks North Star Borough (includes the school district), City of Fairbanks, and City of North Pole
✬ Local Elected Officials: Borough and city mayors, borough assemblymembers, city councilmembers, and school board members.
✬ Local Government Services include schools, libraries, ball parks, soccer fields, public parks, swimming pools, Big Dipper, Birch Hill Recreation Area, Pioneer Park, Carlson Center, Chena Lakes, Tanana Lakes, city police, fire and ambulance services, local roads (including snow plowing), and more.
