Welcome to Kuba’s Corner!
My name is Kuba (Coo-buh) Grzeda (rhymes with "agenda") and I’m the Head (and only) Kuba at Kuba’s Corner. I was born in Wroclaw, Poland, and came to Alaska as a baby while my parents pursued the American Dream.
This project is on hold for now, but feel free to email me any time!
I’m a proud Alaskan, community builder, and board game enthusiast. I currently serve as the Chief of Staff of the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Appointed by Mayor Bryce Ward and reappointed by Mayor Grier Hopkins, I plan and direct the day-to-day administrative operations of the Borough government, a team of ~400 serving ~100,000 in the heart of Alaska.
My past work was as a project coordinator for the Arctic Research Consortium of the US, where I helped bridge Arctic research across organizations, disciplines, geographies, sectors, knowledge systems, and cultures. My work included helping plan, organize, and execute complex events for the National Science Foundation and other partners, such as:
The 2021 Community and Citizen Science in the Far North Conference
The 2021 Engaging Rural and Alaska Native Undergraduates and Youth in Arctic STEM Workshop
The 2020 Polar Technology Conference
The 2021 Kawerak Knowledge and Research Sovereignty Workshop
The 2020 Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) Investigators Meeting
The 2023 Biennial Federal Arctic Research Plan Implementation Launch Workshop
And more!
I have also been the series coordinator for the monthly Fahrenkamp Lunch speaker series, hosted on Zoom by the Interior Democrats of Alaska on the second Friday of each month.
I hold a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of Alaska Southeast and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Economics from Portland State University.
In 2022, I ran for public office. Though we didn’t win, it was a quite the experience and provided a jumping off point for this site.
This space is for us to talk about life and politics, particularly around Fairbanks, Alaska, and throughout the state.
